Oh, several starting running backs got hurt, but the only injury that really matters is the one to LeSean McCoy (knee). Unfortunately, it’s tough to say whether Karlos Williams or Mike Gillislee would take over if McCoy is sidelined next week. There are several defenses with favorable matchups who could be streamed, as well as a few under-the-radar wide receivers who could sneak into WR3 contention. Other than that, it’s slim pickings.

Let’s take a look at the best fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 16.

Best fantasy football waiver wire pickups, Week 16

Karlos Williams and Mike Gillislee, RBs, Bills. With LeSean McCoy suffering a knee injury in Week 15, one of these two is in line to start if McCoy remains out. Both had just four carries in against the Redskins, with Gillislee making the bigger impact with a 60-yard TD run. However, Williams was the starter earlier in the season when McCoy was out, so we give him the nod if you’re prioritizing waiver moves. Ultimately, both have potential value against Dallas.

Christine Michael, RB, Seahawks. Michael seemed to separate himself from Bryce Brown in Week 15, rushing 16 times for 84 yards compared to just 9-43 for Brown. Destined to go down as a fantasy myth, Michael took advantage of his second chance with the Seahawks – and that could yield big results for patient fantasy owners. Next week, the Seahawks face the Rams, who have mostly struggled against running backs over the second half of the season.

Keshawn Martin, WR, Patriots. Martin figures to see a big uptick in targets after Danny Amendola hurt his knee in Week 15. Julian Edelman isn’t expected to return until Week 17, so Martin would only be behind Brandon LaFell for wide receiver looks in New England. Against the Jets, that could mean big things.

Alfred Blue, RB, Texans. The Texans are at it again. After a couple weeks of ceding touches to Chris Polk, Blue led Houston in carries (20) and rushing yards (107). He also lost a fumble, but it didn’t seem to matter. There’s no telling what the Texans will do at RB next week against Tennessee, but Blue is the early leader in the clubhouse for touches.

Cameron Artis-Payne, RB, Panthers. Artis-Payne led the Panthers’ running back platoon with 14 carries, gaining a respectable 93 total yards (59 rushing, 34 receiving). Jonathan Stewart (foot) could be back next week, but if he’s not, Artis-Payne will have flex value against the Falcons.

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Titans. DGB turned in his second 100-yard effort in the past three games in Week 15, and he led the Titans with nine targets. Garbage time undoubtedly contributed to Green-Beckham’s production, but he still has WR3 potential against Houston next week.

Stefon Diggs, WR, Vikings. Diggs was dropped in a lot of leagues, but he returned to fantasy relevance with a vengeance in Week 15, catching three passes for 55 yards and two TDs. The Vikings have a nice matchup with the Giants’ 32nd-ranked pass defense next week, so go ahead and grab Diggs if he’s available.

Donte Moncrief, WR, Colts. Moncrief, like Diggs, was likely dropped in many leagues, but he had a mini-resurgence in Week 15, catching five of seven targets for 51 yards and a score. That alone doesn’t make Moncrief worth a pickup, but a favorable matchup against Miami next week could give him value.

Kirk Cousins, QB, Redskins. Cousins had a monster game in Week 15, which we’ve seen him do a couple times this season, but if you’re willing to live dangerously and stream a QB in your fantasy championship, it won’t be because of what Cousins has done in the past. Rather, it will be because he’s facing the Eagles’ notoriously awful pass defense next Saturday night.

Devin Funchess, WR, Panthers. Funchess hauled in his fourth touchdown of the year in Week 15, and even though he caught just two passes for 30 yards, he was targeted seven times. Funchess has scored in every other game dating back to Week 9, so consistency is obviously an issue, but he’s an interesting flier next week against Atlanta.

Eddie Royal, WR, Bears. With Alshon Jeffery (knee, calf) banged up, Royal is in line for an increased workload in Week 16. Against the Bucs, who are in the top 10 in fantasy points allowed to WRs, Royal could be a sneaky WR3 if Jeffery is out.

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Vikings. It seems like Rudolph has a “favorable matchup” almost every week – and it seems like he disappoints almost every week – but next week he’ll face a Giants’ defense that came into Week 15 allowing the third-most fantasy points to TEs (then proceeded to give up a TE touchdown against the Panthers). If you don’t feel confident in your tight end’s matchup, Rudolph is a nice fallback option.

Terrance West, RB, Ravens. West led the way for the Ravens after rookie Buck Allen was benched because of a first-half fumble. West isn’t a guy you want to trust in your fantasy title game – especially against the Steelers – but we feel obligated to tell you about any potential starting RBs that might be on your waiver wire.

Joey Iosefa, RB, Patriots. And that brings us to Iosefa, the practice-squadder out of Hawaii who essentially took over the primary running duties for the Pats in the second half in Week 15. All told, he gained 51 yards on 14 carries and could be in line for more work next week against the Jets. However, given the uncertainty of his role and the brutal matchup, we don’t recommend using Iosefa in any formats.

Donald Brown, RB, Chargers. You have to be remarkably desperate to pick up Brown, but with Melvin Gordon (knee) getting hurt, Brown is in line for more touches next week against the Raiders. Do with that information what you will.

Travaris Cadet and Kendall Gaskins, RBs, 49ers. You have to be even more desperate to pick up one of those guys, but another injury to a starter (Shaun Draughn, knee) has opened the door for increased usage. Cadet figures to get the bulk of the carries, but Gaskins got the goal-line touches in Week 15. Either way, neither is desirable against the Lions next week.

Jerick McKinnon, RB, Vikings. McKinnon isn’t worth a pickup unless there are negative reports about Adrian Peterson’s knee this week, but he’s at least worth keeping an eye on.

Houston Texans D/ST. The Texans will be one of next week’s most popular D/ST streams thanks to a matchup against the Titans, who could be without QB Marcus Mariota.

Buffalo Bills D/ST. Buffalo hasn’t played particularly well on defense this year, but they’re another potential stream against a reeling Cowboys’ offense that will either be starting Matt Cassel or Kellen Moore.

Pittsburgh Steelers D/ST. Jimmy Clausen? Matt Schaub? Who cares – just pick up the Steelers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers D/ST. The Bucs get a favorable matchup against the mistake-prone Bears in Week 16. Bonus: Alshon Jeffery (knee, calf) might be out.
