Modding communities usually spring up around games with multiplayer features, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a strictly single-player game. Despite that, there is a plethora of mods available for the game, each one adding a new element or fix to the game. All mods listed here are available for download on Nexus Mods.

Updated on May 28, 2022 by Josh Davison: The remake of Final Fantasy 7 did a lot that players did not expect. It altered the story and split itself into multiple parts and game releases. This has kept players fascinated with the title and how it managed to update a much-beloved classic of the JRPG genre. With this attention and retention, modders have ample opportunity to put their own little twists on the Final Fantasy 7 remake. As such there are still modders putting out new and interesting FF7 Remake mods.
10 Adventure With An EVA Pilot With the Aerith - Asuka (Flare Cosplay) Mod
One of the most popular kinds of FF7 Remake mods lies in the realm of the aesthetic. Many seek to just change hair or eye color, but some go for a whole costume redesign. It’s always pretty popular to do this with another franchise in mind, and such is the case with the Aerith - Asuka (Flare Cosplay) Mod by MonkeyMan Mods with credit given to modders Raq and Ruris.
This one is fairly straightforward, as it puts Aerith in Asuka’s costume from Neon Genesis Evangelion. It’s specifically based on the “Flare” figurine of Asuka, so it’s not quite what she wore in the anime. Regardless, Neon Genesis is a classic, and the costume is genuinely impressive in its attention to detail.
9 FFVIIHook Provides Other Modders With A Foundation
Like many other video game modding scenes, FF7 Remake mods have a foundation-building mod that allows others the tools to tweak their game. In the case of FFVII Remake, it’s called FFVIIHook by emoose and stoker25.
This mod unlocks the developer console in the game as well as makes changes to the console variables. It also allows INI files to be put into the game’s folder. Mods like these are a godsend and are what many unique and useful mods are built from.
8 3DMigoto Base Mod For FFVII Allows Custom Textures
This is another mod foundation but specifically for the integration of 3DMigoto-based mods to be installed into Final Fantasy 7 Remake. 3DMigoto is a mod base used for several games. In FFVII Remake, it specifically allows for many customized textures to be loaded into the game so long as it’s running on DirectX1 — at least at this time.

This 3DMigoto integration comes from kso10, Narknon, and Yudokobos. Special thanks from the uploaders are given to Fraggerman, the Fairy Tail mod server, and the developers of 3DMigoto.
7 Advent Reshade Integrates HDR Lighting Into The Remake
The Advent ReShade mod for Final Fantasy 7 Remake comes from user Vanguard1776 and the ReShade v4.7.0 team. ReShading is a common mod type that upgrades the visuals of the game to make them more photorealistic. This team has done ReShading work for games such as Batman: Arkham Knight, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Dishonored 2, and many more.
This particular ReShade mod boasts adding HDR lighting effects among other tweaks to the games’ visuals. Furthermore, it’s also been designed to have minimal impact on PC performance.
6 Return To Darkstalkers With The Tifa - Morrigan Aensland Cosplay Mod
Darkstalkers is a game series by Capcom that hasn’t gotten much attention in almost 10 years outside of its inclusion in the Capcom Fighting Collection. Despite that, the series still has a devoted fanbase, and the character of Morrigan Aensland is one of the most enduringly popular of Darkstalkers.
Many of the recent FF7 Remake modshave focused on cosplay costumes for the main cast, and this is true with the Tifa - Morrigan Aensland Cosplay mod also by MonkeyMan Mods with credits given to Jenovation and Shinteo. This is another impressively detailed mod that sees Tifa Lockhart take on the role of the famous Darkstalkers succubus.
5 Stuttering Fix - DXVK Method Helps The Game Run Better
The Stuttering Fix Mod from BaselineX provides both a download and a tutorial on how to use the “DXVK Method” to create a smoother experience in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It’s intended to help with frame rate issues as well as problems with assets loading onscreen.
This isn’t a simple fix, and it’s a bit complicated to both understand and explain exactly what is being done in the game files to provide this improvement to the game. However, the guide provided by BaselineX is easy to follow and will hopefully iron out any issues you are having while playing FFVII Remake.
4 Hair Colors For Cloud, Aerith, & Tifa
Sometimes players really just want to give Cloud Strife pink hair, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This mod, from user Jujub, allows players to tinker with the hair colors for Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa. Only one color can be chosen at a time, but it provides a variety of choices for these three iconic characters. It’s also compatible with all costume swaps the characters may have.
Jujub also uploaded a mod that allows you to tinker with their eye colors. This one also works with costume changes and the hair color mod. Like the hair color mod, this only allows the user to tinker with the eye colors of Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa.
3 Protect The Moon With The Sailor Moon Outfits For Cloud, Aerith, And Tifa
This is another one of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake mods that focuses on a cosplay concept. This time, it’s costumes for Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa as characters from Sailor Moon by modder Jujub with credit given to Lopieloo. This mod gives Cloud a Tuxedo Mask costume, Aerith a Sailor Moon outfit, and Tifa a Sailor Mars uniform.
The mod also adds new custom weapons with the Holy Sword for Cloud and the Eternal Tiara for Aerith. The costumes look stunning and really inject just a touch of Sailor Moon into Final Fantasy 7.
2 Equipment Rebalance Tinkers With Weapons & Materia Slots
The Equipment Rebalance mod from user Tyrant Thanatos aims to tackle issues with the game that other players have shared. Namely, t increases the amount of Materia slots that each item has and aims to give more defensive power to armor. As it is, the game heavily favors offensive strategies, so increasing the effectiveness of armor allows more defensive or passive combat strategies to flourish.

There are several mods that increase the Materia slots of one or more items, and it is a common complaint with the weapon upgrading system of the game.
1 Aggressive Companions Makes Allies More Likely To Pick A Fight
The Aggressive Companions mod from user gladias9 makes it so that all companions will be more likely to attack. This is intended to alter their normal behavior, where they are more likely to defend or generally be more passive in a combat scenario.
In the description of the mod, gladias9 makes it clear that this is a fairly experimental mod and not something that will be without its issues that will need to be ironed out.
Final Fantasy 7: Remakeis available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
