Hulu is packed with amazing choices, from competitions to get viewers heart racing from the stress of the clock to more humorous watches as horrible chefs try and figure out how to cut an avocado properly, there is a bit of everything for everyone.
5 Hell’s Kitchen
Gordon Ramsay has made his name in the cooking industry for his fantastic cooking as well as his great use for the ‘F’ word (which he has used to create a series called The F Word). The outspoken chef has several shows that work on helping almost-closed restaurants, to teaching chefs how to work in his own restaurants. In Hell’s Kitchen, chefs from all over with varying backgrounds come together to compete against one another to earn a spot in one of Ramsay’s famous restaurants.
The competition is extreme due to Ramsay’s harsh orders and high expectations, and the drama can get good depending on the competitors, but it is a beautiful watch for those wanting to see Ramsay teach and train. For those at home, there are surely a few things that can be picked up from this amazing chef.
4 Iron Chef
The first Iron Chef show began in 1993 in Japan, but later in 2004, America started their own Iron Chef with the same premise. Guest chefs are challenged by the residential ‘Iron Chefs’ in a cooking battle with specific ingredients and sometimes a theme. These chefs go head-to-head, so the guest chef can try to earn a spot with the Iron Chefs.
It is an intense battle as the Iron Chefs are trying to prove their place while the guest chef is trying to make a name for themselves. It’s a great battle, and due to the surprise ingredients, the competitors must think on their feet, allowing the viewers to learn from their creations.
3 Worst Cooks In America
For those interested in learning a bit from amazing chefs, while getting a laugh in, this would be the perfect choice. Like the title suggests, some of the worst cooks in America come together to learn and compete against one another. Anne Burrell is the host of the show and each season she brings in a guest, such as Bobby Flay, and Tyler Florence to compete against one another.
Each head chef has their own team from the selected worst chefs and will try to beat one another by the end of it. The show not only highlights simple techniques like how to cut vegetables properly, but as the show progresses, the beginning chefs will start to get more complicated tasks, allowing viewers to learn along with them. It’s entertaining and very informative.
2 Chopped
Chopped is one of those shows that amateurs at home can do along with the contestants if they’re bored. It’s a great way to put chefs on the spot and test out how well they can work with ingredients, even if they are wacky and outrageous. Chopped takes four contestants and puts them into three rounds, making one leave after each. There is an appetizer, and entree, and a dessert, however the chefs can’t make anything they want.
There is a basket full of four or so ingredients, and chefs must make those ingredients the main part. Thankfully they are allowed to incorporate more ingredients if they choose, but they need to make sure it doesn’t overpower the main ingredients. It’s a spin on most competitions, and it is incredibly long running (began 2007) so fans can spend a decent amount of time working through the series.
1 Cake Wars
And of course, there needs to be one entry for the bakers. This show is like most of the baking competitions out there now, but entirely focusing on cakes. It has one theme for each episode to give the competitors creative freedom with some restrictions. With three rounds, the guests will have to think on their feet to outshine their competition.
The first round is a simple cake with ingredients chosen specifically for the theme, and the last round is a large creation that showcases the theme entirely. Viewers will be awed at their technique and cake designs and may even give bakers some inspiration for their next bake!
