The Epic Games Store has been growing its catalog steadily since it first launched its online storefront. Part of that growth has been an uptick in free-to-play games on offer. With an evergrowing list of games in that category being added seemingly every week or every month, it can be hard to decide what someone should really get into and spend their time playing. When it comes to the Epic Games Store, there are several titles that stand out from the pack.

Fortnite Rules The Roost On The Epic Games Store

It should come as no surprise that Fortnite is at the top of the list when talking about the best free-to-play titles out there, let alone the best on offer on the Epic Games Store. This is the title that made Epic Games a household name. Not only is this one of, if not the most popular free-to-play game in the world, but it’s one of the most popular games in the world, period. While it’s on offer on basically every video game console, there is only one place you can get it for the PC, and that’s the Epic Games Store.

One of the reasons Fortnite has been going strong for as long as it has is the regular updates to skins, emotes, and maps. The current season of Fortnite includes UFOs abducting players and users being able to play as popular characters such as Marvel’s Loki. It’s not just about the skins though. Fortnite has been getting new features at a steady pace in order to try and keep the feel of the game fresh over the years.

Rocket League Rolls Along On The Epic Games Store

Rocket League is one of the top free-to-plays because there just aren’t any other high-profile free sports games out there. It’s also safe to say players aren’t going to find any other games where people use their cars in order to play a kind of oversized soccer match. The original way Rocket League developers went about creating the game is only one of the reasons this is among the best of the best when it comes to free-to-play games.

Much like Fortnite, Rocket League has stayed one of the more popular games in this particular category because of the skins and different events it offers. Whether talking about giving players the chance to drive a different version of the Batmobile, or get behind the wheel of one of the cars featured in Fast & Furious 9.

Genshin Impact Brings A Whole New World To The Epic Games Store

Genshin Impact is quite a bit different than other games in the free-to-play category because the game is not all about going up against other players. This one is an action RPG that puts players in the fantasy world of Teyvat, home of seven different nations. Players put together parties of characters that can then be changed in the middle of combat. This allows users to have different powers and abilities as they go from one fight to the next. While there are outfits and other items that can be purchased in the free-to-play game, there are also different characters and story beats that can be unlocked as well. The game has been quite successful since it launched, mainly because of its gacha system where players can win an array of attractive characters. The game’s developer miHoYo has also been good at offering tons of new Genshin Impact content on a fairly regular basis.

Warframe Offers A Destiny-Like Title On Epic Games Store

Warframe might not get as many headlines as Fortnite or even Destiny, but the game has been going strong since it was first released. There is a bit of a Destiny feel to the title, though instead of Guardians, players are taking on what amounts to a kind of space ninja. Like the game that it’s often compared to, these space ninjas, actually known as a race called the Tenno, are fighting all kinds of battles far into the earth’s future. In actuality, the release of this game predates Destiny, but because it didn’t have the same kind of AAA studio backing it didn’t get anywhere near the attention. Warframe didn’t go the Destiny path when it came to the way development worked either. Instead of releasing a Warframe 2, this free-to-play title releases one update after another.

Warface Adds Military-Style Combat To The Epic Games Store

Warface is one of several different military-style free-to-play shooters out on the market. What sets this one apart from other games in the same genre is that this particular game is made by the same company that created Crysis. Like Warframe, this game has been around longer than most gamers might think. It was first released back in 2013 for PC and consoles and has been going pretty strong ever since. Interestingly, the game arrived just a few months after Warframe. This particular game actually had a bit of a rerelease just a few years back and the development team split away from Crytek. Over the years, the game has managed to improve to the point where it’s now one of the best free-to-play games on the Epic Games Store.
