RELATED: Genshin Impact: Top Exploration Characters, Ranked
While many of the hangout events feature fan-favorite characters, some of them shine a bit more than others. How much the player gets to actually interact, learn about, or spend time with each featured character is incredibly important when picking out the best hangouts.
Whether the player gets to find out more about the character’s personality and truly interact/connect with them or if they simply run fetch quests with no real value are the aspects that will rank certain hangouts higher than others. Which are the best Genshin Impact hangout events?
Updated February 3, 2022, by Christine Mendoza:As each version of Genshin Impact rolls out, new characters are introduced, slowly filling the colorful roster. Each exciting Genshin update leaves fans itching to find out more about their new favorites, and the hangout events do just that. The past few versions of Genshin Impact have added even more fun hangout event series to allow fans to spend a day with their favorite characters. The team over at miHoYo are working their hardest, and it shows, as, with each new series of hangouts, the writing and activities seem to get more and more interesting and showcase more of each character’s true personality. Here is an updated list of each Genshin Impact hangout event, ranked with all the newest events included in the mix.
11 Diona: (Act I): The Cat and the Cocktail
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 26 Version Added : 1. 5 (Series II) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Prologue Act III: Song of the Dragon and Freedom
Diona’s hangout event is a bit of a fetch quest but the adorable cats the player gets to meet along the way is a great reward. Diona’s job as a bartender in Mondstadt is a bit strange as the player quickly finds out that Diona actually strongly dislikes alcoholic drinks due to her father’s affinity for drinking.
Through Diona’s hangout, the Traveler spends the day either acquiring ingredients for Diona to prepare a special drink or running all over town, trying to hunt down cats that belong to Diona’s tavern.
Either way, the Traveler gets to find out more about Diona but truly getting on her good side is quite the difficult task.
10 Noelle: (Act I) Chivalric Training & (Act II) Knightly Exam Prep
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 26 Version Added : (Act I): 1. 4 (Series I), (Act II): 1. 5 (Series II) Unlock : (Act I) 2 Story Keys / (Act II) 2 Story Keys Story Progress : (Act I) Prologue Act III: Song of the Dragon and Freedom / (Act II) All endings in Act I of Hangout Event and Chapter I, Act III: A New Star Approaches
So far, Noelle is the only character with two available hangout events that are separated into two acts. As the Traveler spends more and more time with the knight in training, they find out exactly how determined she is. Noelle’s wardrobe is a strange mix of maid-wear and combat armor. Noelle goes on to explain that she is training to be an official Knight of Favonius by first fulfilling her services as a maid.
Noelle proves herself to be rather timid and too kind to refuse when others ask for her help. As the Traveler assists Noelle through her day, they see more of her child-like innocence shine through; and although it was a nice opportunity to get to know the knight in training, it still focuses heavily on the citizens, rather than Noelle and what she wishes to do in her free time herself.
9 Chongyun: (Act I): Signs of Evil
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 26 Version Added : 1. 4 (Series I) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Prologue Act III: Song of the Dragon and Freedom
It is during his hangout event that it is revealed that Chongyun is in fact an exorcist, on the lookout for evil spirits. With a total of six endings, the Traveler can venture off with Chongyun to a number of places that had rumors of evil spirits being present surrounding them.

During this hangout, Chongyun’s resolve as an exorcist is made clear and truly displays how much time he dedicates to his craft as many common human emotions or routines come off as foreign and strange to him. Either way, a less serious and much softer side of Chongyun comes out and allows the player to see a finally more relaxed Chongyun when faced with idleness.
8 Beidou: (Act I): When The Crux Shines Bright
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 30 Version Added : 2. 3 (Series IV) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Chapter II Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals
Beidou is well respected amongst her crew on the Crux and her hangout event shows the player why that is. There are a lot of interactions with Beidou and her trusty crew in this hangout, and it’s very refreshing to see that the latter are so faithful to their Captain out of their own free will and not from desperation or fear.
However, during this hangout, it’s clear that Beidou has a few other activities planned for the day that seem a bit suspicious. After a few bits of dialogue with vendors around the harbor in very cryptic terms, the player learns that Beidou has taken the Traveler with her to plan a mysterious deal with unknown goods.
Spending the day with Beidou may not be as relaxing as it first seems; Ningguang has said before that she and the Captain often butt heads due to Beidou’s run-ins with the law, and this hangout allows a glimpse into these shady deals that get her in trouble in the first place!
7 Thoma: (Act I): A Housekeeper’s Daily Chores
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 30 Version Added : 2. 2 (Series III) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Chapter II, Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals
The long harsh journey to help the people of Inazuma was a tiring one and after all the help Thoma offered the Traveler, he deserves a nice day out with good company. Thoma may be known as a “Fixer” around Inazuma and had plenty of opportunities to show off his skills on the battlefield, but he’s much more than just a capable warrior.
This hangout event lets Thoma’s skills as an experienced housekeeper truly shine. Traveler gets to accompany Thoma on his journey to share his talents as the Kamisato housekeeper and help citizens all over Inazuma with housework.
This event truly showcases a new, softer side of Thoma as he teaches the Traveler (and the player) the importance of life maintenance.
6 Barbara: (Act I): Wellspring of Healing
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 26 Version Added : 1. 4 (Series I) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Prologue Act III: Song of the Dragon and Freedom
Barbara’s hangout event was a rather humbling experience. Although Barbara is a famous pop star all over Mondstadt, her life isn’t just glitz and glamour all the time. The Traveler spends the day with Barbara, learning that although she’s a star, she still works hard, doing smaller trivial tasks around the Cathedral, serving as a devout follower of Barbatos.

Her fame seems to trouble her at times due to some of her persistent fans. The player slowly sees the very humble side of Barbara; the side that’s a hard worker and loves simple indulgences like peace, quiet, and a freshly made Chilibrew. Spending time with Barbara is a humble and touching experience, allowing the player a glimpse into the true Barbara, rather than the one seen on stage.
5 Yun Jin: (Act I): A Song That Knows Grace
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 28 Version Added : 2. 4 (Series V) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Interlude Chapter Act I: The Crane Returns on the Wind
Yun Jin may be a famous actress, performer, and opera singer loved by the masses, but she doesn’t carry that “glamorous superstar” attitude that some may assume she has. Much like Barbara, Yun Jin is a star, but much prefers the simpler things in life and this hangout definitely shows off her kinder, more humble, and intimate side.
Yun Jin’s hangout can go a number of ways; from conducting a (rather suspicious) interview to taking a day off to relax with her. Yun Jin may have a bit of coldness to her gaze, but it’s simply due to the fact she is a highly skilled actor. Her hangout event really allows her true, more carefree, fun-loving colors. She even suggests playing Thoma’s infamous “hot pot” game after treating herself and the Traveler to some milk tea!
If the player treats her like a person or friend rather than just an idol, they’ll see a much warmer side to the quiet girl.
4 Sayu: (Act I): Yoohoo Art: Seichou no Jutsu
Requirements
Adventure Rank: 30 Version Added : 2. 2 (Series III) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Chapter II, Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals
The adorable Sayu is given the mysterious assignment of assassinating a target which so happens to be the Traveler. After discussing business for a bit, the Traveler eventually spends the day with Sayu and learns about why she’s so insistent on taking her daily naps. Not only does the player get to understand Sayu and her persistent sleepiness more, but they also see kinder, more child-like sides to her, despite being a ninja. The player accompanies her in the forest which she expresses care and concern for all the wildlife there.
The adorable ninja not only gets her time to shine in her hangout event but also gets to learn a valuable lesson with the help of the Traveler and strengthen their bond along the way. This event allows the player to build a heartfelt bond with Sayu, treating the little ninja as their very own baby sister.
3 Bennett: (Act I): Fantastic Voyage
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 26 Version Added : 1. 4 (Series I) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Prologue Act III: Song of the Dragon and Freedom
While many of the other hangout events take a more leisurely route, the Traveler’s journey with Bennett is a bit more stressful. Here is where the player finally gets the backstory about the infamous Benny’s Adventure Team and why all the members (except Bennett himself) decided to up and leave.
RELATED: Genshin Impact: Mistakes Players Make When Using Bennett
The Traveler can either take a relaxing day off, shopping (rather unsuccessfully) with Bennett through the streets of Mondstadt, or take his offer up and go on an exciting adventure with him instead. Either way, the player then finds out about Bennett’s unbelievably bad luck and gets a taste of how a day in his life goes and is then able to truly sympathize with the poor boy.
While Bennett is plagued with terrible fortune wherever he goes, Genshin fans can’t help but love him, as Bennett still keeps a bright attitude in the face of adversity and is always grateful for the little treasure he finds.
2 Ningguang: (Act I): The Jade Chamber’s Returning Guest
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 28 Version Added : 2. 4 (Series V) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Interlude Chapter Act I: The Crane Returns on the Wind
Before this hangout event, most of the time Ningguang had spent on-screen sold her as a cold and calculated businesswoman and not much more. However, her hangout event does a great job showing off both the lavish side of her lifestyle as well as her heart.
The player can plan out their day with Ningguang in a few different ways; one of which involves following her to important business lunches and witnessing firsthand exactly how professional and well-respected she is as a leader and a business mogul. Other routes involve Ningguang sneakily catching crooks who have wronged her, and spending some time with her most important informants (who happen to be young children).
Ningguang shows off her protective side and proves that one can run a successful business in Liyue without sacrificing any of their morals along the way.
1 Gorou: (Act I): The Canine General’s Special Operations
Requirements
Adventure Rank : 40 Version Added : 2. 3 (Series IV) Unlock : 2 Story Keys Story Progress : Chapter II Act III: Omnipresence Over Mortals and Dracaena Somnolenta Chapter Act I: Warrior’s Dreams Like Spring Grass Renewing
Gorou may be a widely respected and revered general of the Watatsumi Army, but there’s much more to him than that. Each ending of Gorou’s hangout manages to show off his softer side in a very relatable way. Gorou may not be experienced in all realms in life, but the kind boy always tries his best and skillfully adapts his military knowledge in order to help others with their problems in life in a surprisingly successful manner! The player gets a great opportunity to form a meaningful bond with the soldier on his day off.
Gorou’s character is well explored in his hangout event as well as the heartfelt relationship with his troops and his hilariously uncomfortable relationship with Yae Miko.
Overall, Gorou is painted as a fun and interesting character with a heart of gold that is effortlessly funny.
Genshin Impact was released on September 28, 2020, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS.
