Flowers aren’t hard to come by after players craft the ladder item. Native flowers naturally bloom in the higher elevations of players’ islands, but seeds of various types can be purchased from Nook’s Cranny or Leif while visiting. Flowers can also be dug up and taken from various random islands found with Nook Miles tickets.

The most important tools when breeding flowers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are the shovel and the watering can. While the shovel is needed to move flowers around, the watering can stimulates the flowers and makes it more likely for them to reproduce. Players will also want a clear area to plant if they are going for hybrid breeding.
Small Square Pattern
This pattern is good for if players are looking to breed hybrids that require flowers of the same color, such as black roses. As long as the horizontal or vertical sides of this pattern have space, this pattern can be repeated as long as the other flowers are of a different species.
Grid Pattern
This pattern has the same usage as the 2x2 square pattern shown above, as it’s meant to breed flowers that require two parent flowers of the same color. As it’s a grid, this pattern can be infinitely repeated until players run out of flowers or space.
Turtle Pattern
Once again, this pattern is good for breeding flowers that require the same parent. Like the grid pattern, this can be repeated infinitely, but this pattern can provide far more hybrids. However, this pattern can take a long time to water, so its best to use it if help is involved.
Offset Grid Pattern
This pattern is similar to the above, but it is much more manageable for one person. It functions like the grid, but there is extra room for more hybrids.
Pair Pattern
This pattern can be used for flower hybrids that require parents of two different colors. With this, it’s just simply putting the two parents next to each other and watering them so that they may breed.
Diamond Pattern
Continued from before, the diamond pattern is also useful for breeding flower hybrids that require two parents of different colors. While this one can be repeated, players should be careful to not place flowers in a checkerboard styled pattern, as it will become less efficient if placed that way.
Clone Pattern
Finally, the clone pattern is a pattern that can be used to clone hybrids by placing them in a grid while they don’t touch. This is especially helpful for rarer hybrids that are hard to breed normally such as blue roses.
