There are plenty of mods out there to liven up Darkest Dungeon; check out our top picks for mods you should check out.
Updated October 11, 2022, by Ritwik Mitra: Darkest Dungeon is one of the hardest yet most engaging role-playing games around. Players need to have a well-balanced team with individuals who can handle the many horrors that lie within each dungeon that they have to explore. The end result is a tense and rewarding experience that can be augmented with the integration of mods. Here are some of the best Darkest Dungeon mods that players can download to enhance and personalize their experience.
25 Marvin Seo’s Thrall Class Mod
Mods that add new classes to the game are welcomed by many fans time and time again. After all, they do a great job of enhancing gameplay diversity in the game quite a bit.
One such mod adds the Thrall class into the game. This class serves as a proper tank that can absorb a ton of punishment before whooping enemies into the ground without a second thought.
24 Marvin Seo’s Seraph Class Mod
The Seraph is meant to be a fanatical race that relies on her fanatical faith and impressive sturdiness to be effective in battle. It’s a great class that players can use to change things up in Darkest Dungeon.
One of the more unique parts of the Seraph is the fact that getting wounded can augment her powers! Of course, players shouldn’t rely on this mechanic too much since it can lead to them becoming overly confident and losing out the Seraph to a string of powerful attacks.
23 Dragonslayer Knight - Class Mod
A knight that uses his trusted spear to pierce foes while dodging their attacks with utmost finesse, the Dragonslayer Knight is a fun character to play around with in Darkest Dungeon.
This class boasts high speed and dodge stats, with his ability to summon lightning being pretty great as well. Fans of Dark Souls who want to mess around in Darkest Dungeon with an entertaining class that reminds them of Ornstein will have a great time playing as the Dragonslayer Knight.
22 Assassin - Class Mod
Players who love a high-risk and high-reward playstyle in Darkest Dungeon will be well served by the Assassin Class mod. True to its name, it lets players take on the role of a bloodthirsty assassin who can kill enemies at a moment’s notice.

The downside here is that Assassins can’t take too many hits despite being frontline fighters. Players need to be wary of the fights they pick and whether the Assassin should play such an offensive role in every battle to begin with.
21 Marvin Seo’s Sisters Class Mod
Out of all the class mods on this list, the Sisters are easily the most interesting of the bunch. Two souls inhabit one body, with one being that of a noble Scholar that is able to maintain control for the most part while the Warrior can rear her head in a tough battle.
However, there are times when both souls start fighting for control of the body, leaving this party member quite member quite vulnerable at times. Thus, the Sisters might seem like the best of both worlds… but players shouldn’t be too reliant on both their defensive and offensive skills.
20 Marvin Seo’s Falconer Class Mod
Marvin Seo is one of the most popular names in the Darkest Dungeon modding community. This creator has constantly been at the forefront of developing some of the best Darkest Dungeon mods.
The new classes he adds to the game are particularly noteworthy, such as the amazing Falconer class. Coupled with a fresh backstory and some extra content of its own, this mod is a great way to freshen up the Darkest Dungeon experience.
19 Cataphract Class Mod
The Darkest Dungeon modding selection is full to the brim with new and unique classes that can add some much-needed variety to the game. The Cataphract class mod definitely doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
With this mod, players can experiment around with a powerful new class to decimate enemies in Darkest Dungeon. This would be especially satisfying after the hours of pain the player has had to endure in the game.
18 Duchess Class Mod
Another class mod that is worth a mention is the Duchess class, which is easily one of Darkest Dungeon’s best mods. The power of this class is perfectly offset by the stress debuffs that this class adds to the rest of the party.
She might be a challenge to control, but players who manage to make the most of the Duchess’ strengths will have a wildly enjoyable time indeed. Just try to keep other party members sane when she transforms, and you should be fine.
17 Level Restrictions Removal
Darkest Dungeon is a great game and will keep players entertained for hours on end. However, late-game players will find it rather annoying after a point that heroes can’t level up beyond a certain point.
The Level Restrictions Removal mod does exactly what it sets out to do and prevents players from having to face this debilitating situation. This fact alone makes it one of the best Darkest Dungeon mods by a country mile.
16 Geralt, Bounty Hunter Skins
Players who want more third-party representation in their copy of Darkest Dungeon will find this mod to be perfect for them. After all, who wouldn’t want the beloved Geralt to feature in this game… or any other title, for that matter?
It might be a small change, but a welcome one regardless. The fact that this skin is for the Bounty Hunter makes it even more fitting!
15 Abysswalker
For fans of Dark Souls, the Abysswalker mod is sure to be a favorite as it adds a brand-new class based on Artorias from Dark Souls. The Abysswalker class has two different elements to it, each depending on the stance the character takes. It can be either a defender of the realm or a berserker under the influence of the abyss.
With this class, stress becomes abyssal corruption, but your character being stressed does have its benefits. The more stress the Abysswalker has, the more damage it does, as well as additional benefits, such as the Heroic Struggle special affliction.
14 Curio Hints
The Curio Hints mod is a nice little addition to make this very difficult game a little bit easier, though only very slightly. This mod allows you to see which items you need to use on curios before you interact with them and if no item is displayed, you either don’t need to use one or interacting with it will have bad results for your party.
Given that every little bit of health that players can keep makes the difference between life or death, avoiding bad curios that will deal damage or inflict bad statuses on your party members will definitely help in some small way.
13 Epic Loading Screens
One of the downsides to Darkest Dungeon is that the loading screens aren’t the quickest out there. They’re also not exactly interesting, so players tend to get pretty bored staring at them. Fortunately, a dedicated fan has taken it upon themselves to liven up these loading screens.
The Epic Loading Screens Mod replaces the loading screens, ensuring they are in keeping with the dungeon that the player is waiting to enter. Additionally, the town loading screen has also changed and now portrays all the character classes in an epic battle scene.
12 True Heroes v2.0
For any players who struggle with the game, and that’s nothing to be ashamed of as Darkest Dungeon is notoriously difficult, there is a mod that can help to ease the difficulty. The True Heroes v2.0 Mod makes the game less about luck and more about rewarding players who strategize.
This mod does a variety of things that all add up to a smoother journey for players, including rebalancing heroes, increasing HP, increasing certain aspects of the inventory, increasing character resistance to negative stats, and a lot more.
11 Pitch Black Dungeon - Overhaul Mod
For any fans looking for a new experience in Darkest Dungeon, the Pitch Black Dungeon - Overhaul Mod is a perfect choice. This mod revamps the game to offer a familiar, yet more challenging experience for anyone brave enough to check it out.
This mod adds brand-new enemy subtypes, as well as thousands of additional encounters, a rebalanced economy, and a different loot system. The decisions made by players are even more important and so the player must be even more tactical when playing.
10 Bloodborne Highwayman Skin
If you fancy making one of your classes look like it’s from another gaming franchise, you’re in luck. The Bloodborne Highwayman Skin mod changes up the look of one of the fan-favorite classes, redesigning the Highwayman so that it more closely resembles The Hunter from Bloodborne.
Many fans are anticipating a Bloodborne sequel for the PlayStation 5 in the near future, with there being a few unanswered questions remaining that players would like the next game to shed some light on.
9 Better Trinkets
If you’re looking to make Darkest Dungeon a little more forgiving, the Better Trinkets mod ensures that all negative stats are removed from all trinkets within the game. Trinkets are equipable items, with party characters being able to equip two trinkets each.
Should a character fall in battle, you can loot their trinkets to keep them, or if your inventory is full, then you will regrettably lose them. Trinkets are found in dungeons, with some being obtained from specific enemies, and some are also available for purchase from the Nomad Wagon.
8 3 Trinkets
The base game limits the number of tickets that characters can equip to just two each, which is a shame as these equipable items can be rather handy. However, the 3 Trinkets mod allows you to add an additional slot for each character so you can maximize the benefits of these items.
Coupled with the Better Trinkets mod that was previously mentioned, the combination of the two could really help players build some powerhouse characters. Be warned though, you must unequip all trinkets before installing this mod.
7 Larger Inventory Stacks
As with any game with RPG elements, the limited inventory space can be a real pain, especially when dungeon diving. It’s additionally frustrating when your inventory is already full and one of your heroes dies, meaning you either have to drop loot to gather up their fallen trinkets or leave them behind.
Fortunately, the Larger Inventory Stacks mod increases all item stacks to 50 and increases the money stack to 100,000. As an additional bonus, the mod also makes the sell-back price of items the same as the purchase price.
6 Yennefer of Vengeberg
Adding new classes to the game with mods is a great way to add some replay value to Darkest Dungeon– plus, it’s even more fun when the class is a familiar character from another well-known gaming franchise. The Yennefer of Vengeberg mod adds the fan-favorite sorceress from The Witcher series.
The Yennefer class uses the Shieldbreaker class as its basis. This modder has managed to faithfully create the Darkest Dungeon style, while also recreating Yennefer perfectly. This is the perfect mod to play while you wait for the next season of Netflix’s The Witcher.
